COMMON QUESTIONS

Is Marilyn’s Voice a non profit group?

Marilyn’s Voice’s is a 501(c) (3) registered non-profit corporation. We are also registered with the Department of Agriculture.

We are a 100% volunteer organization and are supported by adoption fees and donations. All of our rescued animals are lovingly cared for in private foster homes until their adoption into screened and approved forever homes.

The group is named after Kristina’s rescue, Marilyn, whose vocal cords were cut while she was still at a puppy mill. Debarking is a horrific yet common practice in these situations to keep a large number of dogs quiet. The members of Marilyn’s Voice promise continue to educate the public about the puppy mill problem in Ohio.

Marilyn’s Voice was founded in April of 2007 by Kristina Lange.
To rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for severely neglected and abused dogs from commercial kennels, puppy mills and other unfortunate situations; to eliminate the puppy mill industry in Ohio by raising awareness through education, outreach, protests and other events; to help individuals find responsible ways to acquire dogs as companion animals.

We are a foster based group, so we do not have a physical shelter location. Or fosters are located in Northeast Ohio including Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula and Cuyahoga counties. Our main veterinarian is location in Wickliffe, OH.

Dogs and cats in our care are available for adoption once they are updated on all vetting. You can see dogs on our Facebook page, as well as our Petfinder page.

We process applications in the order received, as well as taking into consideration the best fit for the dog.

We verify current and past veterinarian information as well as speak to personal references.

Our volunteers communicate via email and our application process is online.  If your application is approved you will receive an email and the volunteer/foster will reach out to schedule a meet and greet.

Many of Marilyn’s Voice dogs have come from puppy mills, either discarded after breeding efforts or due to health issues. We also typically receive puppies that did not sell.

We also have many connections with local shelters and will aid in rehabilitating dogs that need placement outside of the shelter environment. On occasion we also receive “owner surrender” dogs that are unable to be cared for, or in the event of an owners’ death.

We recommend following our Facebook page for information and photos of dogs in our care.

Our adoption fees vary, and adoption information can be found on our website here.

We are a non-profit organization, and adoption fees provide us necessary funds to provide veterinary care.
